I graduated from Rising Spirit Institute of Natural Health in 2001. There I learned the basics of massage: Swedish, Deep Tissue, Thai, Reflexology, Aromatherapy, and Oriental Medicine. We had a thorough education in anatomy and physiology along with muskuloskeletal kinesiology. While in school I also obtained a certification in Neuromuscular Therapy through the International Academy of Neuromuscular Therapy, a Judith DeLaney program only offered at a handful of schools around the country.
Along with learning what to do to help people gain relief from pain I also learned a lot about what not to do. There are sometimes contraindications for massage.
There are also endangerment sites that a skilled professional knows how to properly massage or stay away from altogether, depending on the site.
I have continued my education throughout my six year career by attending classes at Atlanta School of Massage, ASHA, Rising Spirit, and private lessons offered through instructors certified by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. I attend the massage festivals to meet massage professionals from all over the country to learn new techniques and hone my skills. I am licensed by the State of Georgia Licensing board, certified by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, and belong to the Associated Massage and Bodywork Professionals where I am also insured.
I use a slow tempo, approaching the muscles gently at first and working my way in slowly and allowing you to breath into the pressure so the muscles will relax. By focusing on the muscle while you inhale, and focusing on allowing the muscle to relax while you exhale you will be assuring that you get the most out of the massage.
My studio is private, quiet, clean and comfortable and only steps from parking. I have taken steps to sound-proof the massage room. Client comfort and safety is of upmost importance to me. I can also come to your home or office for the ultimate massage experience without the stress of driving afterward.
I like to do an integrated massage consisting of a blend of four types of massage combined with stretching and joint mobilization. A typical session may start out with some Thai massage techniques to address any low back and lower extremity issues. This is extremely relaxing and is a great way to warm up the muscles before deep massage is applied. For the most thorough massage a 75 or 90 minute session is recommended.
